David Garcia Carrera, graduated in Architecture and PhD in Technology of Architecture, Building and Urbanism. Serra Hunter Fellow from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, ETSAV (UPC).

He concentrates his academic activity on teaching Structures at the ETSAV (UPC), where he was awarded by the students with the Golden Scale for the best teacher during two consecutive courses. Responsible for the Final Project of the Master of the FPC, and Member of the Court of Master's Final Project. He was part of the Academic Committee of the Doctoral School in the field of Architecture, Building and Urbanism Technology (UPC). As well as, he is a member of the courts, and evaluator of doctoral works.

Author of numerous articles and publications, founder of the Institute of Structural Studies (IEE), of the Catalan Institute of Wood (INCAFUST), and President of the Association of Structural Consultants (ACE) during the years 2011-2019.

Professional experience, leading company in the architecture sector. Projected and directed a multitude of works of structure. Participation in the development of the most advanced technologies in the building structures sector.
Most innovative technologies contributed, and applied in real cases, to highlight: post-stressed slabs of large spans, lightened slabs, design of new mixed collaborating slabs, introduction of the technology of the most modern structures in wood, design of new prefabricated plates of great format, development of a new Holedeck-One structural typology.

Development of 2 patents: CLICK BOX construction system (2017) and automated underground parking for motorcycles MOTOTOWN SUBPARK (2015).

Member of the Research Group of the UPC LiTA (Laboratory of Innovation and Technology in Architecture).

Founding Member of the DICEA research Group (Design and Analysis of Architectural Structures), the first of the UPC dedicated fundamentally to Architecture Structures.

He participated in the research projects: Rocotransp, PocRisc, Ashvin and Management of Populations and Recovery of the Black Pine.

Fields of specialization

Specialized in the design, calculation of structures and construction technology.
As a teacher, more than 30 years transmitting the knowledge of my specialty to different generations students, at all educational levels (Degree, Master, Doctorate, etc.).

Some lines of specific research in this area:

- Structural analysis in existing building and the interaction between the behavior of the soil and the adjacent structures
- Light, tensile, transformable structures
- New approaches in structural materials: mixed structures, recycled materials, new visions of existing materials (wood, stone, wall)
- Use of non-constructive materials such as cardboard or carbon
- Advanced analysis methods: parametric approaches or analysis with complex models that allow us to investigate the possibility of proposing new ways of analyzing structural elements
- Industrialized: prefabricated structures with alternative approaches to the need for
improve the performance of the construction elements (speed of execution, technical quality, accuracy, construction site safety, economic competitiveness)
